About

Robert Giroux began his professional photography career in Montreal by covering Canadian politics, entertainment and sporting events for the Agence France-Presse (AFP) news wire service, relocating in 1991 to their North American HQ in Washington DC.   From 1995 to 2000 he was one of two Newsweek Magazine contract photographers assigned on rotation to the White House travel pool.

In early 2000 Robert was recruited to manage the picture-desks and editorial operations for the then fledgling Getty Images News & Entertainment wire service to be based in New York City.  Later, becoming their first chief photographer for news in the Americas, he designed and managed the creation of the software Getty Images Field Tool (GIFT) which was used globally by all Getty Images staff and freelance photographers and editors to edit, caption and transmit images from the field, it standardized workflow and enabled unprecedented speed of production and delivery and was in continuous use up to approximately 2018.  His success with several editorial technology projects earned him a promotion and transfer to Getty Images' Seattle headquarters and a position as Director of Editorial Technology where he designed and implemented the global distribution and picture desk system bringing all regional picture desks onto a single platform, solving many challenging technical problems along the way.

After leaving Getty Images, Robert founded ApplicationGap LLC and began creating Easy Release , a model and property release app for iOS and Android mobile devices which consistently ranks among the top photography related apps on Apple's iOS App Store and Google's Android Play Store , all the while simultaneously doing a stint at National Geographic Society in their Global Media Technology division, managing DAM systems and associated editorial workflow tools from 2010 to 2017.

Robert continues to manage ApplicationGap LLC daily operations to present day.
